About SSC – Staff Selection Commission

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) was formed in India on November 4, 1975, as a subordinate office of the Department of Personnel and Training, under the Central Government. The primary objective of the SSC is to recruit staff for various Group ‘B’ and ‘C’ posts in different departments and ministries of the Indian Government and its subordinate offices.

Over the years, the SSC has undergone several changes in its structure and functions. Initially, it was responsible for conducting examinations only for the recruitment of clerks and stenographers in government offices. However, with the expansion of the government sector and the need for more specialized skills, the scope of SSC’s responsibilities increased.

Today, the SSC conducts a range of examinations, including Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGL), Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination (CHSL), Junior Engineer (JE), Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and ‘D’, and many others. It also conducts exams for recruitment to positions in the Central Police Organizations (CPO) such as the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and the Delhi Police.

The SSC has its headquarters in New Delhi and has seven regional offices located in different parts of the country. The SSC has been instrumental in providing a platform for job seekers to enter the government sector and contribute to the nation-building process. The commission has played a vital role in maintaining the quality and transparency of the recruitment process, which has earned it the trust and respect of the candidates and the government alike.
